Craigslist was browbeaten into removing its adult services subcategory. It had already changed its "Erotic Services" under "Personals" to "Adult Services" under "Services."�Now this.�When it comes to finding prostitutes, Craigslist isn't the problem. Turn off your Google filters, type in "adult escort services," and you'll discover hundreds of sites that provide female companions for the evening without the checks and balances of Craigslist, which does a reasonable job banning certain sketchy posts.

As an aside regarding this situation, I'd like to say that I'm convinced that this attack on the company can only benefit one group: organized crime. Mobsters who run girls are the real threat and it's apparent that on Craigslist, most of the women are independent "freelancers" outside the ring of corruption managed by gangsters and pimps. So they have got to go. Just check out the politicians attacking Craigslist and figure it out for yourself. There, somebody had to say it. End of diatribe.

This situation reminds me of the battle to get a XXX top-level domain (TLD), which I have supported for 15 years or more. That may finally come to fruition. The idea is to ghettoize all the porn on the Internet. This is the same reason that Craigslist had the Adult Services posting. The company knew that if there was no specific area for these chippies, they would be cropping up all over the place. This is how red light districts in metropolitan cities work. Simply put, you do not want a bunch of whores roaming around Macy's trying to pick up men for a nooner.

Now, I'm not here to argue for or against the legalization of prostitution; I'm here to argue about the practicality of the situation before us. And let me address the bogus notion that Craigslist is somehow expediting human trafficking or pimping minors and white slaves. Go arrest someone at the company if you really think this is going on. Where is the evidence? And the Craigslist management has been highly cooperative with law enforcement when it suspects any activity involving a minor. So this charge is a specious scare tactic. It's a shame that nobody wants to speak out against this bullcrap.
